Supporting Information: Declutter Your Life-Find Your Joy Workshop

Thank you so much for joining me for the Decluttering Workshop! I truly enjoyed spending this time with you. Below, you’ll find some additional insights and resources that I didn’t get a chance to share during our session, but I think they’ll add even more value to your decluttering journey. I hope they inspire and support you as you continue creating a space that brings you joy!

Spiritual decluttering is about removing inner clutter—negative emotions, limiting beliefs, past burdens—that prevent you from experiencing peace and joy. Here are some ways to declutter spiritually and make room for more joy in your life:

1. Release Emotional Baggage

  • Forgiveness Practice – Let go of resentment and past hurts by practicing forgiveness. Write a letter you don’t send or visualize releasing the pain.
  • Journaling – Write down lingering negative thoughts and burn or discard the paper to symbolize letting go.
  • Cutting Energy Cords – Imagine cutting cords with people or situations that drain your energy.

2. Cleanse Your Energy

  • Meditation & Breathwork – Sit quietly and visualize light filling you, replacing any heaviness.
  • Smudging – Burn sage, palo santo, or incense to clear negative energy from your space.
  • Salt Baths – Take an Epsom salt or sea salt bath to cleanse your aura and remove energetic blockages.

3. Remove Mental Clutter

  • Simplify Your Spiritual Practices – Focus on a few meaningful rituals instead of overwhelming yourself with too many practices.
  • Digital Detox – Reduce exposure to negative news, social media, and online distractions.
  • Practice Mindfulness – Be present in each moment rather than dwelling on the past or future.

4. Let Go of Limiting Beliefs

  • Affirmations – Replace negative self-talk with positive affirmations that uplift your spirit.
  • Reframe Your Thoughts – When a limiting belief arises, challenge it by asking, “Is this absolutely true?”
  • Inner Child Work – Reconnect with your childhood self and heal any lingering wounds by offering love and compassion.

5. Declutter Your Physical Space

  • Sacred Space Creation – Designate a peaceful area in your home for prayer, meditation, or reflection.
  • Donate Unused Items – Give away anything that doesn’t serve your highest good.
  • Remove Objects with Negative Associations – If an item reminds you of a painful past, let it go.

6. Reset Your Priorities

  • Say No to Draining Commitments – Protect your energy by setting boundaries.
  • Align Your Life with Your Values – Identify what truly matters and focus on that.
  • Practice Gratitude – Shift your energy by appreciating what you already have.

7. Connect with Your Higher Self

  • Daily Prayer or Reflection – Set aside time to connect with your spiritual beliefs.
  • Listen to Your Intuition – Pay attention to your gut feelings and inner wisdom.
  • Spend Time in Nature – Being in nature helps you ground your energy and clear spiritual clutter.

Spiritual decluttering is an ongoing process. By removing what no longer serves you, you create space for more joy, love, and peace. Which of these methods resonates with you the most?

Clearing out mental clutter helps create space for clarity, focus, and inner peace. Here are some effective ways to declutter your mind:

1. Brain Dump

  • Write down everything on your mind—tasks, worries, ideas—without filtering.
  • Organize your thoughts later by categorizing them into priorities, action items, or things to release.

2. Set Clear Priorities

  • Identify what truly matters and focus on that.
  • Use the Eisenhower Matrix (urgent vs. important) to sort tasks.
  • Eliminate or delegate what isn’t essential.

3. Reduce Information Overload

  • Limit social media scrolling and unnecessary news consumption.
  • Unsubscribe from emails, unfollow accounts, and clear your digital space.
  • Set boundaries on when and how you consume information.

4. Create a Routine

  • Develop morning and evening rituals that bring calm and structure.
  • Schedule time blocks for important tasks to avoid mental chaos.

5. Practice Mindfulness

  • Be present in the moment instead of dwelling on the past or worrying about the future.
  • Try 5-minute breathing exercises to reset your thoughts.

6. Let Go of Mental Loops

  • Identify repetitive thoughts and ask yourself, “Is this thought serving me?”
  • Challenge negative or unhelpful beliefs and replace them with constructive ones.

7. Declutter Your Physical Space

  • A cluttered space often leads to a cluttered mind.
  • Organize your surroundings to reduce distractions and mental overwhelm.

8. Limit Multitasking

  • Focus on one task at a time to improve efficiency and reduce stress.
  • Use techniques like Pomodoro (25-minute focus, 5-minute break) to stay on track.

9. Get Your Thoughts Out

  • Journaling: Write freely about your worries, ideas, or gratitude.
  • Talking it out: Share with a trusted friend, coach, or therapist.

10. Take Breaks and Rest

  • Schedule regular breaks to avoid mental fatigue.
  • Ensure you’re getting enough sleep—poor rest leads to mental fog.

11. Detox from Decision Fatigue

  • Simplify decisions: Meal prep, wear a “uniform” (like a go-to outfit), or automate small choices.
  • Set limits: Make decisions once instead of revisiting them repeatedly.

12. Engage in a Creative or Physical Activity

  • Movement (walking, yoga, dancing) helps clear mental clutter.
  • Expressing yourself creatively (drawing, music, crafting) shifts your mind away from stress.

Clearing mental clutter is an ongoing process. Start small and focus on what works best for you. Which of these do you think you’ll try first? 😊

Physical Clutter is the accumulation of unnecessary or unorganized tangible items in a space.

It can be incredibly overwhelming and overstimulating.

Your environment profoundly affects how you feel and perform. External physical clutter adds to stress and creates a sense of chaos and feelings of overwhelm. Decluttering physical items and eliminating them or putting them away improves your surroundings in profound ways. Try these ways to get a jump start on your decluttering tasks.

1. The 10-Minute Declutter Challenge

  • Set a timer for 10 minutes and challenge yourself to declutter a small area, such as your desk, purse, or a single drawer.
  • Sort items into three categories: Keep, Donate, Trash.
  • This quick activity builds momentum and shows that decluttering doesn’t have to be overwhelming.

2. The 5-Item Purge

  • Find five items they no longer use or need.
  • Choose to donate, recycle, or discard these items.
  • This activity helps you practice letting go of excess in a manageable way.

3. Decluttering Bingo

  • Create a Bingo-style sheet with decluttering tasks (e.g., “Donate an item of clothing,” “Delete 10 emails,” “Throw away an expired item from the fridge”).
  • Mark off tasks as you complete them.
  • It makes decluttering feel like a fun challenge rather than a chore.

4. The “Joy Check” Exercise (Inspired by Marie Kondo)

  • Pick three random objects in your space and ask: “Does this bring me joy or serve a clear purpose?”
  • If the answer is no, consider letting it go.
  • This exercise teaches mindful ownership and conscious decision-making.

5. The Digital Declutter Sprint

  • Take 5 minutes to delete unused apps, unsubscribe from unwanted emails, or organize your desktop.
  • This reinforces the idea that decluttering isn’t just about physical spaces but also digital ones.

6. Before-and-After Photo Challenge

  • Take a quick “before” picture of a cluttered area, declutter it for 10-15 minutes, and then take an “after” photo.
  • Sharing their transformations can be motivating and inspiring for others. Feel free to share on our More Room For Joy Facebook Page.

7. The “One In, Two Out” Rule

  • For every new item they bring into their space, they must remove two old items.
  • This keeps clutter from accumulating in the future and offers you and opportunity to practice mindful purchasing.

These activities are simple, don’t take much time, and reinforce the lesson that decluttering is a habit, not a one-time event. Plus, you will have a sense of accomplishment and a more organized space!
